SCOTLAND VACATION 2004
May 18 - May 30, 2004

JOURNAL ENTRY 12
entry begun on May 26th, 2004
at 08:40 Kelso Time

We drove down towards Roslin Chapel. Along the road we came upon an Ikea store and Ginger and I got all giddy and aflutter. We kept driving, but now that we knew it was there it was quite obvious (to us, anyway) that it was only a matter of time before we went back.

Got to Roslin Chapel and had a look around. There is apparently quite a bit of mention about it in the DaVinci Code apparently (I have yet to read it), but it is a fascinating place. It has a mix of decoration, from druid works to Viking carvings, Knights Templar, and most dominantly Christian imagery (it still operates as an Episcopal Church). Mick got us a fictional book that is one theory about the Holy Grail, and there are stories that documents buried under the Chapel hold secrets regarding the Grail's existence and form/nature.

After such an interesting spiritual and cultural experience, the next logical step seemed to be to have yet another, so off we went back to the Ikea store. If the store in Phoenix is the same as this one then when it opens it will be an amazing cultural phenomenon (and a traffic nightmare). This place dwarves the CostCo next to it. We went around the top floor, which is big stuff like furniture and kitchen setups. Then we were all ready for a meal and went into the restaurant there. I had a plate of Swedish meatballs with gravy, and they put strawberry jam in the gravy which was pretty interesting (and delicious, believe it or not). Ginger and Mick had the salmon crab cake meals. Once the meal was through, we went through the bottom level of the store which was house wares, artwork, and a lot of smaller items. Beyond the cashiers was a good Swiss grocery store, and then the parking lot. It was a fantastic experience all in all, and we can't wait for the one in Phoenix to get open open open.

We drove back to Mick's house, getting home around six or seven. Talked in instant messages to my parents, and got to bed reasonably soon after.
